General Information

Rabies vaccinations and licenses are required for all cats and dogs over 4 months old. Animals coming into the state must be vaccinated for rabies and registered within 30 days. Annual license fees may vary but are higher for unsterilized animals; penalty for unvaccinated and/or unregistered animals. Leash laws are in effect.

Closed on County holidays.

Call this number to report stray, unwanted, sick or injured animals, as well as rabies control, animal bite investigation, nuisance control, cruelty, and negligence investigation. For weekend emergencies, call 911 to relay message to Animal Control.

Sat 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Closed on county holiday.

Animals picked up by Animal Control are taken to the shelter of Durham Animal Protection Society. The Shelter helps with adoptions, lost pets, dog obedience programs and provides low-cost spaying/neutering certificates.
